Dear Sharon,
I am 75, a retired physics professor, and a yored: My wife, teenage son and I made an aliya from Russia in Dec. 1977, and in 1980 we had to move to the US. In Israel, for the first time I felt being “home.” Unfortunately, I will not be able to die there…

Thanks so much. My new MacBook Pro’d screen is on a terminal trajectory and after being on hold for 20 minutes with iDigital, a service rep finally got on the line and gave me the needed address in Petah Tikvah. However I failed to find it on Google maps. So I Googled an appropriate string of key words and your article popped up as number one on the search results, complete with the Google map link. Luckily I have a car so do not need to navigate the public transport system. My Android/Google map GPS will whisk me there. Thanks again

Yes, it is extremely terrible. To me, this feeling of being helpless about it always leads to the inclination to hate those who are doing such acts of terror, the wish to strike back at them and at their human and material resources. But then I hold on and wonder: Isn’t that exactly what they want? Don’t those terrorists want us to come down to the same level as they are?
And I have experienced this feeling of always being alert when travelling in the same way as you describe it. My impression was that it presses on my psyche aswell as on that of most Israelis with time, and most of us aren’t aware of it anymore, but it grows in the soul like a kind of cancer. Living on, what else can we do?
